Ewe Got the Look
‘Black Sheep’, Livia Kojo Alour’s acclaimed solo show – fusing physical theatre, spoken word and song – tells the story of a queer Black woman finding love.
Livia Kojo Alour is a poet, vocalist and theatre maker who, in a former life, regularly graced international stages as a sword swallower. After moving from Germany to London over ten years ago to live and work in a more diverse community, she learned that life-long feelings of self-hatred and otherness are part internalised racism and part survival technique. ‘Black Sheep’ serves as a candid autobiographical work and a euphoric reclamation of her identity and ongoing fortitude. This heady mix of a show has won rare praise from all quarters and looks set to be a real highlight of Northern Stage’s autumn season. DP
