Calling Peterlee People

Residents of Peterlee, both past and present, are being encouraged to share their memories of the town as part of its 75th birthday celebrations.

A year-long programme of celebrations are currently underway for Peterlee, the town that was established in 1948. Visitors can currently see ‘Peterlee: The Place to Be’ at Castle Dene Shopping Centre, an exhibition that features over 100 photographs and working drawings that tell the story of how the town came to be (Dart Road – pictured – circa 1963). But the council are now asking people to come forward with personal photos, memorabilia and related stories they have of living in the town. This extra stuff will go towards ‘The Living Memory Project’, which aims to offer a different perspective on the story of the Peterlee from the people who called, and still call, the town home.

Peterlee: The Place to Be, Castle Dene Shopping Centre, until 28 October. Find out more about Living Memory by emailing: memories@alisonlister.com
