A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Assembly Rooms, Durham
A Midsummer Night’s Dream is arguably Shakespeare’s most
entertaining plays – a far cry from some of his other dark and
tragic plays, it offers a little bit of fun for the audience in a
mystical setting they’re not quite familiar with. Daniel Bradford’s
interpretation at Durham’s Assembly Rooms did not disappoint.
Against a lush backdrop of vines, it was not only a visual evergreen
treat, but a comical one too. Elaine MacNicol wowed with her
hysterical portrayal of the desperate Helena cursed by unrequited
love , and Luke Madisson aces the comedic timing and character with
Bottom. If you’re looking for a lively watch with a dash of magic,
this is the one.
