Ladybird Love
Ladybird books were phenomenally successful in the second half of the 20th century. They covered a bewildering array of subjects, and much of their appeal lay in the fact that they were always visually rich. But who were the artists? Were they known for other work? What was the context in which they were illustrating? And who were the models for the pictures, and where were the real locations? This exhibition – curated by Ladybird expert Helen Day (pictured) – explores these questions and also recounts the fascinating story of the little Loughborough print business that became a giant in children’s publishing. Along with an unparalleled collection of books on display will be original artwork and artefacts. There will also be a plethora of activities for adults and children – check their website for details on these.
