On Yer Bike
Can we really call Recyke y’bike a local institution? I think we can you know because they’re absolutely brilliant. The charitable organisation specialises in refurbishing donated bikes and then selling them at reasonable prices to fund their charitable objectives and outreach activities, which include developing the capacity and skills of the socially disadvantaged community of the north-east, and preserving and protecting the health of the public by encouraging cycling. They also save a load of bikes from being chucked into landfill, which is another feather in their jaunty cap. Harry Hall’s superb exhibition really highlights all the good work they do and also shows just how much pleasure bikes bring to communities.
Harry Hall: Recyke y’bike, opening event Thursday 22 June, 6pm. Exhibition runs to 29 June, Newcastle Library. Recyke y’bike have shops in Byker and Chester-le-Street. More from: recyke.bike
