Call to Arms
When Lonely Planet released their top ten hottest destinations to visit in 2023, I was aghast that The Cumberland Arms’ terrace wasn’t listed. Because make no mistake, this place is going to be positively sizzling over the summer months. Take Spin City, for instance, which will see top DJs doing their thing while guest street food vendors dish up plenty of mouth-watering fare. These all take place on the first Friday of each month (5-9pm) and will include: DJ ffog + food from Scream for Pizza (2 June); DJ Awkward Black Girl + food from Gwarn Jerk (7 July); Samara + food from Goodtimes Tacos (4 August); and ivorything + food from Chuchos (1 September). There is plenty of live stuff coming to the terrace too, and among the highlights over the summer will be a NEWISM (north-east women in soul music) all-dayer + food from Kimchi Planet (Saturday 10 June). Other live highlights include a Northern Roots all-dayer with MCs Mimi and Kay Greyson + food from Magic Hat (Saturday 1 July); and a Hapless Museum Worker event featuring the bands Lung, Bis and Milky Wimpshake, the DJ Stagger Lee + food from Wheels of Fire (Saturday 8 July). And then, on Sunday 6 August, the pub is celebrating 150 years of being licensed to sell alcohol with a special appearance from The Wilson Family + Parm-o-rama serving up Teesside’s finest cuisine. Add in a mini-beer festival celebrating milds and bitters, and you’ve got a day out and a half. Details on all the above, as well as more live stuff, from the website, below.
