Quality Street
This production is packing pedigree wherever you look. For a kick-off it’s been put together by Unfolding Theatre, one of the region’s most feted production companies. Since forming in 2008, this community-based bunch have won both local and national acclaim (the Guardian recently called them “thrillingly talented”). On writing duties is the award-winning Alison Carr – who is fulfilling an ambition to work with Unfolding Theatre – and penning the music is The Futureheads’ Ross Millard. The story takes a simple premise – a normal street, three different people, one massive sinkhole – and runs with it. ‘A Street Like This’ director Annie Rigby: “Alison Carr’s writing is brilliant at weaving together the everyday and the extraordinary. It’s a show that is full of surprises, laughter, music and huge amounts of joy. It shows how big, unexpected events, can open up new possibilities.”
A Street Like This, Thursday 29 June, The Fire Station, Sunderland, 6.30pm & 8.30pm, from £11, sunderlandculture.org.uk (the production will tour in the autumn).
