Meet thy Makers

Discover the next generation of artists, makers and designers in the ‘Modern Makers’ exhibition at The Bowes Museum.

The Bowes’ unique fine and decorative arts collection has inspired the artists at The Northern School of Art to create a 21st century series of ornamental objects and textiles. Visitors will be able to visualise and ‘feel’ the museum through the work, in the students’ use of form, pattern and texture, which are the themes of the exhibition. It aims to demystify the designerly thinking process and will show how the museum’s curators have been re-inspired by the students’ pieces to put on show items from the museum’s 50,000 piece collection that they’ve been reminded of. Shown alongside rarely seen and re-sited pieces, this exploratory series of work introduces people to the production process behind an exhibited object.
