Hot House – Richard Chappell Dance at Dance City
As the long awaited warmth of spring prepares to make a comeback, Richard Chappell’s Hot House is a welcomed blazing commentary of the energy currently circulating society. Performing against the backdrop of the cost of living crisis and political unrest, Chappell described the show to be “the party you wanted or didn’t know you needed”, and it was clear from the enamoured gaze of the audience that a celebration of the anger and frustration we all feel was most definitely needed. Performing to the mesmerising sound of violinist Enyuan Khong and electronic musicians Larch, the beautifully controlled yet erratic movement of the dancers made for a scorching performance of energy and incandescent passion for life. Chappell took dance and set it alight, and for a first performance it’s exciting to see where the story will go on the next legs of the tour.
