The Cluny, for foodies

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’re bound to have heard of the legendary gigs put on by The Cluny in Newcastle. But did you know that they also serve food 12-8 Mon-Sat, and 12-7 on Sundays? I was lucky enough to sample their winter menu, and here are my thoughts.

First things first, The Cluny’s bar is very expansive indeed, especially if you’re into your beer, and I had the loveliest mug of hot cider with my meal that struck the perfect balance between sour and sweet. And, pleased to report, there’s something for everyone on the menu, which is resplendent with wraps, nachos, loaded fries, sarnies, salads, burgers, bar snacks – all the good stuff. Veggies and vegans are catered for too, and there’s also a children’s menu. Price wise, eveything came in at under £12. I ordered the Snoop Dogg (I can’t help but go for things with fun names) and it has revolutionised hot dogs for me. The smokey sausage, provided by award-winning local butchers Block & Bottle, was *chef’s kiss*, while the fried onions and jalapeños offered a lovely bit of crunch with a kick. The pairing of ketchup and American mustard offered a saucy explosion of flavour, especially when accompanied by an oozy melted cheese. Arriving on a bed of salty fries, the portion size was more than enough to keep me fuelled, and my partner-in-dine very much enjoyed her Cluny Burger, too. If you’re looking for creative food, in a great location, served up by lovely people, then you certainly can’t go wrong with The Cluny. LT
