The award-winning Newcastle Puppetry Festival returns in April and it’s bigger than ever.

This wonderful festival has swiftly garnered itself a loyal following with many of the events selling out in previous years. It’s a week-long celebration – this year taking place around Easter – and includes shows for adults, teens and children. There are also captioned events, free outdoor events and UK premieres galore. Among the highlights for 2023 are Beasts on the Street (free outdoor theatre on Northumberland Street) and the Family Puppetry Day (free outdoor theatre at Ouseburn Farm). Dance City is also set to host a raft of good stuff including: The Gingerbread Man (Stuff and Nonsense Theatre), Moments from In Suspension (Stephen Mottram), H&B (Les Pieds dans la Lune Cie – UK Premiere), Clowns Houses (Merlin Puppet Theatre – UK Premiere), toooB (Angel Exit Theatre), and JOE 5 (Duda Paiva Company – UK Premiere). Newcastle Arts Centre is also hosting a two-day puppetry performance and movement workshop as well as the UK premiere of The Object Score (Duda Paiva Company). GM
