Six Appeal

The wives of Henry VIII take centre stage in ‘Six’, the smash-hit musical that is coming to Stockton in February (and Newcastle’s Theatre Royal in July).

I wonder – when Anne Boleyn walked with dignity to her execution – if she ever imagined that one day her life would help inspire one of the most exuberant musicals of the 21st century. ‘Six’ is a real phenomenon. It’s a musical that sidelines that Tudor tyrant Henry VIII, and gives voice to his six wives. But this is no straight retelling of their tales. Instead, the show sees history remixed into a pop concert. It’s won huge acclaim in the West End (“the most uplifting piece of new British musical theatre” – Evening Standard) and Broadway (“Pure entertainment” – NYT) and it continues to bowl over audiences wherever it plays.
