Jay To Go!
Norman Jay became hooked on all aspects of Black music right from the get-go, as soon as he got his hands on his dad’s huge collection of original 60s jazz, blu beat, ska and rock-steady vinyl. By the late 70s he’d become an avid follower of contemporary Afro-American music styles including soul, funk and jazz fusion – enthusiastically collecting classic labels such as Motown, Atlantic and Stax. He was in the Big Apple to experience the rise of disco, and was also present when hip-hop hit. Inspired by his US jaunt he set up the legendary Good Times Sound System and became a wow at the Notting Hill Carnival. His sets are renowned for sprinkling clubbers with feel good stardust and it’s great news he’s back in the NE. GM
