Companion Piece

‘Companion’ is the first in an ongoing series of exhibitions at Workplace Foundation, which invite curators to look at the gallery’s relationships with artists.

Curated by Newcastle-based Curator and Researcher Gayle Meikle this show explores how artists describe their work and the connections made when works sit in companionship with one another. The three artists represented here – and all showing recent work – are Claire Dorsett who takes inspiration from seemingly insignificant things (that’s her ‘Rory’s Car Seat’ from 2020 pictured); Tayo Adekunle, a British Nigerian photographer working predominantly with self-portraiture; and Catherine Bertola, an artist working across installation, sculpture, drawing and film, who gives voice to untold narratives, often drawing on the undervalued role of women in society and the home.
