The Queer Underbelly Of Folk

Jump down a queer rabbit hole at Cobalt Studios in December to explore themes of love, loss and the supernatural – all through folk music.

Folk is Queer is the brainchild of Holly Clark, Queer Folk and Cobalt Studios. It’s a night that features hauntingly beautiful music and performance, with particular regard given to the mysterious history of folk music and its hidden history of LGBTQ+ themes and identites. And their December events looks extra special as on headline duties is Maddie Morris (pictured), a much feted singer/songwriter who received the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk award in 2019. Also on the bill is Anna Hughes and Jess Howard, a shiny new duo guaranteed to hit you right there. If you’re a fan of trad and folk music then this gig is for you, but if you’re willing to dip your toe into a music genre that is maybe a little bit unfamiliar to yourself – but you’re ready to get lost in pure emotion – you should also give it a try.
