Young, Gifted and Back

Teesside’s finest folkies The Young ‘Uns are playing The Witham in Barnard Castle this December. Christmas vibes will ensue.

The Young ‘Uns mantelpiece is positively groaning because of the amount of awards they’ve had to stick on it, including prestigious BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards for Best Group (they’ve got a couple of those) and Best Album (2018’s classic ‘Strangers’). Their recorded stuff is absolutely brilliant, but they take things up another notch again when they play live. Combining heart-on-the-sleeve storytelling with warm harmonies always makes for an arresting proposition, but when you add in their relentless, and often hilarious, repartee then you’ve got the full package. They’ve played in front of thousands at Glastonbury (where they went down a storm) but it’s at venues such as The Witham that they really shine. You’ve been good this year – why not give yourself a treat. GM
