Hark! A Legend Approaches!
Hip-hops heads who know their stuff will recognise this fella as Pete Rock. He’s coming to The Cluny in December to perform live with MC AMXXR and pull a DJ set.
The roster of people who have clamoured to work with rapper, DJ and producer Pete Rock reads like a who’s who of hip-hop. Nas, Run DMC, De La Soul, Redman, Doug E. Fresh and sundry members of the Wu-Tang Clan have all shared studio space with Rock. A native of the Bronx, he first came to prominence in the early 1990s when he formed a duo with his childhood friend C.L. Smooth. The pair then scored a huge critical and commercial success with their ‘Mecca and the Soul Brother’ album, which, today, is heralded as one of the greatest hip-hop albums of all time. Rock would then go on to produce some of the era’s defining acts – such as Ghostface Killah – but he’s always kept his eye in regarding his solo work. It’s a real coup for The Cluny to bring him to the north-east and, needless to say, this one should not be missed. GM
