Shroom With A View

Mushroom Works are just one of top cultural institutions throwing open their doors for the next Open Studios event, which is set to take place on 26 & 27 November.

I love these Open Studios events, and the next one is handily taking place a month before Christmas. Many of Tyneside’s best arty institutions are set to take part, but my first port of call will be at Mushroom Works. All of the artists and designers who frequent this lovely space will be on hand for a chat, with the weekend giving us a great opportunity to check out their wares from furniture (that fluted cabinet sideboard – pictured – swoon) to paintings, textiles, leather products, jewellery, prints, illustrations and more. Whether you’re in the market for stocking-fillers or something a bit more extravagant, they’ll have you covered. Mushroom Works will also be running their ever-popular 25x25 event, whereby artists and designers produce work that measures 25cm square and then sell it for, yep, 25 quid. Local bakers, The French Oven, will also be hand with a plethora of goodies to eat and drink. Sold! JL

Open Studios 2022, Saturday 26 & Sunday 27 November, 10am-5pm. Mushroom Works, St. Lawrence Road, Newcastle. mushroomworks.com
