LOVE, Actually

Need a little bit of love? Try Janina Sabaliauskaite’s moving exhibition, SENDING LOVE, which sees her reaching into her personal life to empower anyone of a queer and feminist background.

Sabaliauskaite is a Lithuanian-born and Newcastle-based multi-talented artist, and SENDING LOVE is her first UK exhibition. It’s made up of stunning and compelling photography that is dedicated to found family and friends from the LGBTQ+ community. If you need uplifting, a solid shoulder by your side, or the freedom to push past your boundaries, then this exhibition is your friend. Her portraits are absolutely beautiful, each tells a story, and Sabaliauskaite encourages discussion about the celebration and treatment of queer lives across Eastern Europe and the United Kingdom in the face of homophobia. The exhibition is completely free, runs over five months, and I can’t recommend it highly enough. MW

Janina Sabaliauskaite: SENDING LOVE, until 15 January, Northern Gallery for Contemporary Art, Sunderland,10am-5pm, free. sunderlandculture.org.uk
