Nautical But Nice

‘When the Boat Comes In’ is an exhibition celebrating Hartlepool’s stunning maritime art collection.

Of course, you’re not going to be able to move for people in stripy tops shouting “Ahoy there!” in Hartlepool next year – what with the Tall Ships in town and all that. But ahead of that extravaganza why not whet your appetite for all things nautical with this very fine exhibition, which will feature pieces by Tom McAndrew (that’s his ‘The Sea Wall at Hartlepool’ pictured), Charles Napier Hemy, J.W. Carmichael, William Henry Chambers, and other artists who have been inspired by the coastline of the British Isles and the industries that grew from it. Each picture in the show tells a story of the relationship between this seafaring nation and the surrounding waters. GM
