The Talk of the Town sees three stalwarts of the north-east cultural scene coming together for a night of poetry, prose, music and moving images. I’m there, dude.

This should be canny. It’s set to feature a spoken word supergroup (if you will) made up of Steve Drayton, Elaine Cusack and Rob Walton. Steve and Rob, of course, used to run amok with The Big Fun Club, a comedy show like no other. Elaine, meanwhile (the self-styled Princess of Felling), bestrode the 90s as an indie music journalist and is now – along with Rob – a published poet of some (dis)repute. Their aim? To bring the spoken word scene kicking and screaming into the 21st century with a fast moving show. For their next event – which is taking place at a secret venue in the centre of Newcastle – they will be joined by Jack & Sam (aka former Silly Billies’ founders Jack Gardner and Sam Megahay). RM

The Talk of the Town, Thursday 29 September, secret venue(!), 7.15pm, £10.
