Let's Twisterella Again

Middlesbrough’s amazing one-day music festival Twisterella is hovering into view once again, which is your cue to get very excited.

Forty of the best up and coming bands around. Five stages. One ticket. Does it get any better than that? (Answer: No.) And this year’s Twisterella is really spoiling us with a treat-laden programme designed to thrill. Among the acts doing their stuff this year are Teesside’s own Benefits, a bunch of furious electro-punk agitators whose brickbats are hurled through all the right windows. And then there is Swim School, a four-piece who swirl up a heady brew of grunge, dream-pop and indie that has been spiked with the same stuff that fires Wolf Alice, The Big Moon etc. We also absolutely love Panic Shack (pictured), a very feisty four-piece who share some of the same DNA as Amyl and the Sniffers. If you like your indie to saunter rather than slouch, then you’re sure to go a bundle for The Royston Club, a four-piece from Wrexham who write the kind of jaunty melodies that will put a bomb under any mosh-pit. Also look out for Pit Pony, Noisy, Prima Queen, Bull, Sick Joy, Treeboy & Arc, Jodie Nicholson, and oodles more. RM

Twisterella, Saturday 8 October, various venues in Middlesbrough, £20. twisterella.co.uk
