Snowgoose are one of the UK’s most feted folk-rock outfits, and you can find out what makes them so special when they come to North Shields this September.

Snowgoose released their ‘The Making of You’ album in 2020 and, truth be told, it’s nary been off my turntable ever since. It’s a truly wonderful album with not a bad, or indifferent, or even above-average song on it. Every track is a thing of beauty, taking in everything from bossa nova rhythms, to West Coast psychedelia, to 1970s folk-rock. The Anglo-Scottish duo, consisting of Anna Sheard and former Soup Dragons man Jim McCulloch, dovetail perfectly with Sheard’s astonishing vocals complimented by McCulloch’s irresistible guitar hooks. The duo transcend all their influences to give us something startlingly original – intimate one moment, rousing the next – and they remain one of the most captivating live propositions around. Their appearance at the lovely Engine Room in North Shields has ‘Gig of the Month’ stamped all over it. DP

Snowgoose + Jim McCulloch solo set, Monday 26 September, The Engine Room, North Shields, doors 7pm, £8.50. terns.co.uk
