Triple Decker Fun Sandwich

Base Camp in Middlesbrough is hosting a gig night in August featuring Sorry Escalator (FYI: brilliant), Apollo Ghosts (FYI: brilliant - pictured) and James Leonard Hewitson (FYI: brilliant). Brilliant.

This is the kind of night that looks like it’s going to be whispered about in hushed tones in the years to come because it’s got a line up that should have the hairs on the back of your neck standing up and going “Woo! Woo! Woo!” James Leonard Hewitson is one of the region’s finest singer/songwriters and he knocks out melodic art/pop that really takes flight. Apollo Ghosts, meanwhile, are a band from Vancouver who won acclaim from indie types for their ‘Pink Tiger’ album, which was released earlier this year. A 22-song opus, which is in turn intimate and acoustic and garage-rocky and full of hooks, it sees the band celebrating friendship, music and hope. Topping the bill is Sorry Escalator, one of Teesside’s finest. They make the kind of dream rock that is all shimmery with chiming guitars and wave after wave of beatific vibes. They’ve also got a song called ‘Sissy Spacek’ – another feather in their cap. DP
