‘Shame’ – which Evelyn ‘Champagne’ King released in 1978 – is one of THE greatest singles of all time. OF ALL TIME. There. I’ve said it. And there’s little chance I’ll change my mind because it’s got one of those grooves, one of those vibes, that you never get tired of. (I’ve got a ten-minute mix of it and it’s still not long enough.) I’m not the only one enamoured because the track was the first to be inducted into the ‘Dance Music Hall of Fame’ (it was followed by the likes of ‘Good Times’ and ‘You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)’). King would go on to release a clutch of floor-fillers including bangers such as ‘Loves Come Down’ and ‘I’m in Love’, and her vocals have also seen her much in demand from house music producers such as Miguel Migs who got her into the studio to record the deep house classic ‘Everyday’. It’s a real coup for Hoochie Coochie to bring King our way and I’m stamping this one with a ‘Do Not Miss’.
