Prints Charming

We love Printfest – the UK’s foremost artist-led printmaking festival – and it’s back in Ulverston this April and May.

Each year a major new UK printmaker is chosen by the organisers of Printfest as their Printmaker of the Year, and Anita Klein has been given the honour this year. Back in 2019 she undertook a residency in the South Lakes, which gave her the opportunity to enjoy the environment by wild swimming – a lifelong passion – and create a commissioned piece (pictured), which was inspired by the local area. And she’s just one of the top talents showing work at the festival, which is dedicated to the exhibition and sale of contemporary handmade prints by some of the most renowned printmakers in the UK and beyond (45 artists will be represented this year). The event has been held annually since 2001 and it attracts thousands of art lovers eager to check out the work, chat to artists and maybe even get involved in a workshop. Tickets are available on the door, but because of pandemic safety measures, it’s advisable to book in advance. GM
