No Filler, All Killer

Vice Killer are a sizzling hot new band from County Durham who are making the words ‘classic indie’ sound rather thrilling all over again.

Vice Killer only formed in the summer of 2020, but this feisty quartet have already blazed a trail with a clutch of songs that simply scream: songwriting chops. They first hovered onto my radar with ‘Commonplace’, which came out in early 2021. It’s a mid-tempo track that thrums with sparkling guitar lines and is utterly bereft of any fat. Recent single ‘Heroine’ is even better. It’s a track with a driving beat and an unstoppable melody, and calls to mind the likes of The Last Shadow Puppets and their jangled-up ilk. Vice Killer also have a nice sense of drama about them, which all the best indie bands seem to have had (think: The Smiths, Suede, Arctic Monkeys etc), and this should set them in good stead as they move forward. Find out just how good they can be when they hit Sunderland this January. DP
