They Are? Are You?

Indie legends in the making Wet Leg are acting as ambassadors for Independent Venue Week, which is taking place from 31 January-6 February.

I’ve seen Arctic Monkey twice, once at the Utilita Arena and once at The Cluny. No surprises for guessing which one I enjoyed most (clue: it was the one where I didn’t have to squint to see the whites of the band’s eyes). Independent venues are the very lifeblood of the live music scene, the outlets where all your favourite bands first stepped out on stage, ready to unleash mayhem (or, in the case of, Mumford and Sons, banjos). This is why it’s vitally important that we support and cherish such institutions, and why Independent Venue Week is such a boon. The annual, seven-day knees-up will take place right across the UK and celebrate the grassroots ecosystem within the live music sector, which, let’s face it, has experienced the toughest couple of years in its history. Thus far, 121 venues have signed up to take part (89% of which are outside London), and more are being added all the time. You can find out more about what’s going on this year by visiting the website, below. DP
