Our Favourite Singles of 2021

1. Wet Leg - Chaise Longue

The calling card from the breakthrough indie act of the 2021 dealt in a bopping bassline and nonsense lyrics about lounging around in your underwear.

2. Doja Cat - Kiss Me More

Doja Cat teamed up with SZA for this disco-dusted jam, which found a groovesome sweet spot from the get-go and never let go.

3. Glass Animals – Heat Wave

The indie stalwarts scored a sleeper hit with this pure-pop inflected groover, which was actually released in 2020 but only came to prominence in 2021.

4. Lorde – Solar Power

“I’m kind of like a prettier Jesus” cooed Lorde on this strummy summer anthem, which borrowed heavily from Primal Scream’s ‘Loaded’.

5. Peggy Gou – I Go

The Berlin-based DJ reaffirmed her position as one of the best dance artists operating today with this floorfiller, which turned the dial up on those trusty 808s and 909s.

6. Bruno Mars & Anderson Paak – Leave The Door Open

BM & AP got together as Silk Sonic for an album of Philly style retro soul. This was the super slinky highlight.

7. Caroline Polachek – Bunny Is A Rider

“A summer jam about being unavailable”, said Polachek of this track, which was finger-snappingly cool and var nigh ubiquitous in 2021.

8. Billie Eilish – Oxytocin

This was as close as Eilish got to an authentic banger in 2021, a low-key slice of dark disco that might have cropped up on an early Grimes album.

9. The Weeknd – Take My Breath

Glossy dancefloor pop didn’t get much better than this strutting chunk of fun that was driven by Moroder style synths.

10. Remi Wolf – Quiet On Set A kaleidoscopic grab-bag of fun from this US pop-funkster, which was all gum-snapping sass, warped kiddy rhymes and day-glo imagery.
