Luca Edward’s handmade lino-prints are both stunning and intricate.
As a queer, trans printmaker based in the north-east, pride for queerness and northern identities run right through Luca Edward’s work. Taking in some of my favourite places in the region, such as Tynemouth and Whitley bay, Luca captures St Mary’s Lighthouse and Spanish City’s finicky details beautifully. As a Geordie plant lover, I particularly relate to his ‘Proud Plant Mam’ print, and his gorgeous print of Howl's Moving Castle is perfect for any Studio Ghibli fans. To celebrate pride month, Luca’s normally black and white view of the Newcastle bridges took on the colours of the rainbow. (This is the print I ordered, which arrived hand packaged with a personalised happy pride message.) If you got the chance to check out Luca’s work at a Christmas market recently, you would have seen the care and love he puts into his art. If not, then please have a look at his stuff online. CJ
