Look At This Heartless Bastard

Erika Wennerstrom is frontwoman with the very excellent Heartless Bastards, a band coming to ply us with some good stuff in January.

Heartless Bastards share plenty in common with fellow Ohioans The Black Keys, in that they both started out as throw-back rock bands – given to give it some welly – but, over time, have evolved into something a lot more interesting. Their initial calling card was 2005’s ‘Stairs and Albums’, a release built from sturdy blues, but on subsequent releases such as 2009’s ‘The Mountain’ – which dipped into country – and 2009’s ‘The Mountain’ – which contained much in the way of foot-to-the-floor good rockin’ – they proved they could spread their wings. 2021’s ‘A Beautiful Life’ showcased a band who know the value of hook-filled indie-rock-pop and it’s their best album yet. These songs simply soar, with Wennerstrom using them as a balm against all the bad things in the word – from greed to overbearing big tech. Let them into your life and become a better person. GM
