Très Bon

Start the new year the way you mean to go on and manifest a year of fun, sexiness and glitter at the BonBons Cabaret.

It’s rare you get to enjoy a night of comedy that makes you laugh, makes you think and celebrates LGBTQ+ communities. By creating a safe inclusive environment, the BonBons Cabaret is a space where the rules of mainstream theatre are subverted and flipped on their head. As they advertise: “Step through the doors and who knows what will happen!” The BonBons’ big queer family collective is hosted by the drag trio Bonnie Love (Cameron) and the Bonnettes (Hattie and Becky) who bring all the drag classics to the party to go with their unique dry humour. Not only will this be a hilariously entertaining night, but the Bonnettes have a queer and working-class theatre company that aim to tell stories which raise LGBTQ+ voices – something I can definitely get behind. For this extravaganza they will be joined by the rest of House of Love: Mama Rhi’s burlesque, Vol au Vent – the iconic drag queen, and singer-songwriter MXYM. (Note: you have a choice of shows on New Year’s Eve: a family-friendly affair in the afternoon, or something a tad more raucous in the evening.) CJ

The BonBons Cabaret NYE Bonanza!, Friday 31 December, Alphabetti, Newcastle, 1pm (family friendly show), 9.30pm (adult show), pay what you feel.
