Adventures In Extraordinary Jazz

Dutch three-piece Under The Surface are one of the most extraordinary and thrilling propositions around and they’re coming to Newcastle this December. Bunting up!

Since 2017 – when Under The Surface released their beguiling debut album – this special trio have united the music press behind them when it comes to dishing out glittering reviews. “A mysterious and monumental piece of art” said Jazznu; “Vocalist Sanne Rambags is a storyteller who balances magic and reality” frothed Jazzenzo. Indeed, Sanne Rambags has taken plenty of plaudits for her singular contribution to the band’s sound, but it would be criminal to overlook the contributions of drummer Joost Likbaart (a key figure of the Dutch jazz scene) and Bram Stadhouders, who is one of the most promising new young musicians on the European improvisation circuit. Together, the trio magic up an utterly dreamlike soundscape, which takes audiences on a musical journey like no other. Bag yourself a ticket and be prepared for the trip of a lifetime. GM

Under The Surface, Sunday 12 December, The Globe, Newcastle, doors 7pm, £10 adv/£12 door (livestream also available).
