Curiouser and Christmassier

Curious are really pushing the boat out this month with two cabarets in the offing: one in Middlesbrough and one in Gateshead. Woo! Hoo!

Fans of queer cabaret are getting an early Christmas present in December as Curious Arts are serving up a double helping of their Curious Winter Cabaret, both at Middlesbrough Town hall (15 December) and Sage Gateshead (16 December). You may have seen Whitley Bay’s Beccy Owen (pictured) at last month’s Women are Mint festival, or know her for her Pop-Up choirs, but if not, these cabarets represent the perfect chance to hear the beautiful voice of this year’s Sage Artist in Resident. Joining her will be Birmingham’s queen of disco and non-binary icon, Fatt Butcher. With refreshing queer joy and fat positivity, their act provides us with the enby representation we desperately need. So then, two hot acts to warm us up this December with a cabaret night that is sure to go down in the annals. CJ

Curious arts winter cabaret: Wednesday 15 December, Middlesbrough Town Hall, 8pm, £12.50, middlesbroughtownhall.co.uk ; Thursday 16 December, Sage Gateshead, 8pm, from £10, sagegateshead.com.
