The Year of the Dog screening and Q&A at Tyneside Cinema

Beginning in early 2020 just prior to the cataclysmic arrival of the COVID epidemic to the UK, the stirring, inspiring and genuinely informative documentary The Year of the Dog, hosted by musician Simone Marie Butler, profiles charity DOTS (Dogs on the Street) who provide vital support for homeless people and the dogs who bring comfort and security to their lives.

Helmed by Paul Sng, who co-directed this year’s excellent music doc ‘Poly Styrene: I Am a Cliché’ the picture also contains interviews with homeless persons talking about their experiences and their relationship with their canine companions, while dispelling myths and examining broader issues around structural inequality.

The Year of the Dog is screening at the Tyneside Cinema on 25th November and will be available on streaming platforms from January 10th
