Our Crack Tongue & Groove
What fresh hell is this?
Where do you stand on Education Secretary, Michael Gove? His legs? His groin? HIS THORAX? As the new school term begins he’s seeing the latest component of his evil plan to rewind time snap into place with the opening of more schools with creationist views. One of these is the Grindon Hall Christian School in Sunderland which had declared on its website (now pulled) that God’s creation of the world was “not a theory but a fact”. A FACT! I believe, in my darkest hours, that the world is actually ruled by babies and they have somehow managed to enslave all adults (they’ve even got us wiping their arses for goodness sake), BUT THIS BELIEF DOES NOT MAKE IT A FACT!
Creationist schools, set up in the US, have managed to crowbar into their curriculum a ‘teach the controversy’ approach to evolution, conveniently ignoring the fact that there is no scientific controversy over evolution. On the one side you’ve got all the scientists with their huge warehouses full of empirical evidence regarding the truth of evolution, and on the other you’ve got a bunch of people who believe something else without a solitary scrap of proof. Do we really want schools in this country to replicate the US model and go down this route? (Note: The Grindon Hall Christian School website is now stating: “New website coming soon!!”. Do we really want our kids to be taught by people who think that the use of double exclamation marks in a sentence is in any way appropriate?) RM
