Ink this one in your diary…
The Big North Tattoo Show has grown year on year since it first launched but even the organisers were bowled over by the response to 2019’s event. They had some idea that it was going to be big – by dint of the large number of advance tickets sold – but even they were shocked by the 10,000 people who flocked to the arena. But that’s what happens when you’ve made a name for yourselves in attracting hundreds of the world’s greatest tattoo artists to your door.
Over the two days all styles of tattoos are represented, from life-like realism to naïve outlines – and if you’re itching to get some new ink, then this is the place to be.What has made previous gatherings such a big success is the organisers’ commitment to other kinds of fun and entertainment, which, this year, will take in live music, cabaret, comedy, fire acts, a free amusement arcade (FREE!) and plenty of competitions.
There will also be a whole bunch of hand-selected traders selling clothing, house wares, jewellery and taxidermy (yep, taxidermy). If you’ve never been to one of these shows before, and you have any interest in tattoos whatsoever, then this is real Willy Wonka’s Factory stuff. Time to skin up.
Big North Tattoo Show, Saturday 25 & Sunday 26 April, Utilita Arena, Newcastle. Tickets: £16 per day/£30 weekend (on the door it’s £20 per day/£35 weekend). bignorthtattooshow.com
