Give me Liberty!
They’re playing their hometown of Sunderland in April. And when I say that Thieves of Liberty are very much the complete package I mean that they’ve got the lot. The singer (say, “Hi! How’s tricks?” to Lidya Balaban) can actually sing (and, boy, does she belt it out); the band can actually play (and how! Their riffs are monumental); and they actually write really great tunes. They play straight-up-and-down rock music that harks back to classic bands such as Guns ‘n’ Roses, Aerosmith, Foo Fighters, and more, with emphasis firmly on grandstanding melodies that have all the swagger of a heavyweight champion. The band have a clutch of well regarded singles under their belts and last year they were crowned Fireball’s Hottest Band. They also embarked on a full UK tour of o2 Academy main stages with Less Than Jake, Goldfinger and Save Ferris. Also on the bill are Take Today, an alt-rocking three-piece with something of the Biffy Clyros about them. Get to it.
