Hilary Woods

Birthmarks (Sacred Bones)

This Irish musician/singer/songwriter could once be found plying her trade with alternative rockers JJ72, but today you’re more likely to find her beguiling (and delighting) with releases that appear to have been conjured up from the ether. Her latest album is a real work of alchemy, recorded, apparently when she was heavily pregnant. It features field recordings, analogue bass synths, cello, sax, sundry electronica and hushed vocals that bind the whole thing beautifully.
