monkeyjunkmike.jpg (Coronavirus Update) Blues is back, Back, BACK!

(UPDATE: Cancelled due to coronavirus)

One of the region’s best-loved live music nights – The Monkey Junk Blues Club – has a new home at the wonderful Carriage pub in Jesmond. And the cost to you? Absolutely nowt! Oh, yeah!

The Monkey Junk Blues Club and the Carriage truly are a match made in heaven. And fortnightly, each Thursday, you’ll be able to get your regular fix of those sizzling vibes from some of the best artists around. Hambone are the regular house band and guest artists are already lining up to hit you with the good stuff. Acts to look out for in the near future are Ain’t Done Yet, a dynamic three piece with a big confident blues sound who bang out well known tunes from the Mississippi Delta through to Chicago (Thursday 19 March, 8pm). And make sure you get on board with Michael Woods (pictured). He’ll be playing fingerpicking ragtime and classic blues from the twenties and thirties with tunes from the likes of Willie McTell, Robert Johnson, Blind Boy Fuller and Leadbelly, along with some original tunes of his own (Thursday 2, April, 8pm). The Carriage is the ideal place for such stuff and this “proper pub” will also play host to the popular ‘Synth-tastic” on Saturday 14 March with DJs spinning all your fave classic synth bands.
