(Postponed. New date announcing 23rd March 2020)

We love the idiosyncrasies of cult Lancashire two-piece The Lovely Eggs. They’ve got a new album in the offing and – what do you know – a tour too!

It’s a very busy time in Eggland right now. Since the release of their last album ‘This is Eggland’ in 2018, the pair have sat back and watched the world mutate and slowly eat itself. However, rather than remaining frozen in despair, they have used their relentless analysis of modern culture to help them pour every bit of inspired anger, contempt and hysterical laughter into new album ‘I Am Moron’ (released 3 April, fact fans). It’s a suitably bracing listen with their psych-punk turned right up to the max, all underpinned, as ever, by their thrilling pop nous. It’s the second album of theirs that has been co-produced and mixed by Dave Fridmann (knob-twiddler for the esteemed likes of The Flaming Lips, MGMT, Tame Impala, you get the picture) and it ploughs the kind of furrow that only they can. Cracking stuff.

The Lovely Eggs, Thursday 9 April, The Cluny, Ouseburn, Newcastle, 7.30pm, £13, thecluny.com (Note: the band are also doing a special in-store appearance at RPM Records in Newcastle on the same day at 4pm. Free!)
