We LOVE the textile work of Newcastle artist Jane Sanders and you can see her magnificent creations at the Foyer Gallery of the People’s Theatre.

From The Beatles to Bjork to Bowie, Jane Sanders loves pop culture. And her love manifests itself in quite glorious artworks, which she creates on a vintage sewing machine. Using techniques such as applique, beading and embroidery she does to textiles what The Sex Pistols did for rock and roll, often using unconventional materials and adding in mixed media for good measure. Her portraits – which present familiar faces in a whole new light – have been commissioned and purchased internationally. They have also featured widely in the media including Mojo and Be Creative magazines (and, hey, now The Crack – this month’s cover star is Sanders’ striking take on Nicky Wire out of the Manic Street Preachers). Find out why we LOVE (yes, caps) her stuff so much by checking out the real thing at The Foyer Gallery.

Stitchin’ in the Kitchen: Textile portraits by Jane Sanders, 9 March-11 April, The Foyer Gallery, The People’s Theatre, Stephenson Road, Newcastle. 10.30am-1pm, Mon-Fri (non-performance nights Mon, Wed & Fri 7.30pm-8.30pm; performance nights from 6.30pm). peoplestheatre.co.uk
