melva20.jpg Do you have worrits?

‘MELVA’ tells the story of a 10-year-old girl who struggles with anxiety, or ‘worrits’, as she knows it. Suitable for ages 7+ this highly praised show from Mortal Fools is coming to Gosforth Civic Theatre in early March.

The multi-award winning Mortal Fools theatre troupe scored a huge hit with ‘MELVA’ when it played a run of sold-out performances over Christmas 2017 in their pop-up theatre space. They have since developed it into a touring theatre package, in partnership with Children North East and Public Health England, and it has been praised to the rafters for its ability to help children (and the adults who support them) to understand more about worries and anxieties. It tells the story of Melva Mapletree who has ‘worrits’ – that uncontrollable churning in the pit of your tummy. It gets so bad that it’s keeping her from leaving the house. Her grandpa has grown so worried about her that he fakes his own disappearance in the hope that it will compel Melva to leave and overcome her fears. What follows is a funny and poignant adventure for them both, where each learn how their ‘worrits’ affect them as well as new ways to tackle them separately and together.
