tannery20.jpg Gig lovers. Get excited.

Fab gastropub The Tannery (aka Hexham’s living room) are not just content to serve up some of the best food and drink in the north-east – they also stage fab gigs, too. Is there anything it can’t do?

I attempted to start my last Hexham pub crawl at The Tannery but it wasn’t much of a crawl. Everyone was loving the pub so much that we didn’t budge all night. The bonhomie flows here just as well as their booze. Also right on the money are their gig nights, which – get this! – are all free entry. Each Saturday in February they’ve got someone on (apart from 1 February) beginning with Gipsy Eyes (8 February), a party-starting covers band who knock out everything from ‘Champagne Supernova’ to ‘Purple Rain’. Next up is Lynch Mob (15 February), an outfit who attach rocket-boosters to country and skiffle sounds. Then we have Little Devil (22 February). This well-regarded four-piece take classic songs from some of rock’s biggest hitters – Foo Fighters, The Cult, INXS, etc – and knock them out of the goddamn park. Finally in February brace yourselves for Blistered Molly (29 February). A female fronted classic rock band from Newcastle they come out all guns blazing with covers of songs by the likes of AC/DC, Guns ‘n’ Roses, Led Zep and ZZ Top. Get to it!
