This Icelandic artist really knows how to hit you right there. This was written, alone, in a tiny rural home in the depths of countryside, after the disintegration of a long-term relationship. That smacks of Justin Vernon taking himself off to the middle of nowhere to pen Bon Iver’s ‘For Emma, Forever Ago’, and this album certainly has the same emotional depth of that seminal release. It’s a bruised album, but also beautiful, whether it’s trading in folky licks or gorgeous electronica. And his voice remains as sweet as ever.
