Since 2005 Elvis & Kresse have been rescuing raw materials – including decommissioned fire hoses – and turning them into luxury lifestyle accessories, such as this lovely belt. Fancy that!

It’s true! Fifteen years ago Elvis & Kresse had a chance encounter with London Fire Brigade. They got chatting – as you would – and learned that firefighters get through a fair few hoses. When they discovered that said hoses ended up in landfill they piped up: “Landfill you say? Hmm… I’m sure we could think of a far better use for them.” (I’m paraphrasing). Since that meeting over 175 tons of material has been reclaimed and turned into some very delectable goods including belts, bags, purses, and more. Needless to say, this is much kinder for the planet (and have you ever tried to cram an old fire hose into a peddle bin? It’s an absolute nightmare). All products are crafted to the highest standards and available from their website (you can also pick up their stuff from Uncaptive at The Stack in Newcastle). You should also know that Elvis & Kresse have partnered with the Burberry Foundation to grab some of their leather off-cuts, which would otherwise be chucked out (hooray!), and 50% of their profits go to charity (bigger hooray!).
