Going to a’Gogo
The original Club a’Gogo was THE place to head in Newcastle in the early 60s if you were part of the In The Know crowd. Situated in the now sadly demolished Handyside Arcade it drew some of the most important artists of the time to its doors including the likes of The Animals (something of a house band, they even penned a song about the place), The Rolling Stones, The Who, Geno Washington and Jimi Hendrix. Many of the top US blues acts also appeared attracting scenesters such as a young Bryan Ferry. The organisers of the new Club a’Gogo are aiming to capture a piece of that magic with a night at the lovely Bridge Hotel pub. They’ll be welcoming all ages who want to dance, have fun and meet like-minded folk. Needless to say, smart dress will be de rigour.
Club a’Gogo, Saturday 25 January, The Bridge Hotel, Newcastle, 7-12pm, £8 (advance). Facebook.com/infoClubGogo
