misscrispy19.jpg Crowning Miss Crispy

Warning: ‘Miss Crispy 1988’ contains mild language and lots of crisp eating. It’s coming to The Gala in Durham this January.

1988. Billingham. Despite all the glitz and glamour of working on line 2 at the factory, the women are looking for something new to pique their interest, something racy, something to sink their teeth into. Life can’t just be about cheese and onion crisps. When a beauty pageant is announced, the women are primed and ready to go, with perms, leg warmers and shoulder pads very much to the fore. Who shall be crowned Miss Crispy 1988? Written by David Tuffnell, and presented by Less is MORE, this play – which won national acclaim the first time it toured in 2013 – was inspired by a series of interviews with women from Teesside and follows the journey of five very unique characters through the depths of love, compassion and adversity.
