newjazzx19.jpg Jazz and more at Newcastle Arts Centre

Newcastle Arts Centre is one of the most active independent arts centres in England. They’ve had another brilliant year and will be closing 2019 with a couple of hot jazz sessions.

Is there anything that Newcastle Arts Centre can’t do? They stage exhibitions (including the recent very brilliant show on historic photography), host gigs and even some theatre. They also hold plenty of popular courses and if you’re looking to take up an arty pursuit in the new year then check their website for details on everything from life drawing to large scale abstract painting (they also do vouchers if you fancy giving the gift of one of these courses as a Christmas pressie). And continuing to go from strength to strength is the ever-popular Jazz Café, which has had a stellar year at the centre. In December they’ve got a fabulous afternoon session with Mo Scott, the local talent who really knows how to belt out the blues, and Mark Williams (Wednesday 4 December, 1pm, £3). And then their final jam of the year promises to be a real party (Tuesday 10 December, 7.30pm). As ever, it’s a totally free event and the house trio will be extending a warm welcome and inviting all jazz instrumentalists and singers, and general aficionados, to join them. More details on all of the good stuff the centre does from the website, below.
