The clock has stopped at a quarter to spring and the world is frozen in winter. Oh no! But who would guess that the key to the New Year lies in a nutshell? Get set for St. Mary’s Heritage Centre’s festive production for young children.

The annual Winter Festival at St. Mary’s is truly special, a unique family performance that everyone can enjoy. For over ten years the Christmas show has become part of many families’ holiday, celebrating a wide range of art forms from drama and song, through to animation and contemporary dance. Not only that, the whole centre is transformed for the performances with a festive tree, twinkling lights and winter model village. ‘In a Nutshell’ is a beautifully crafted piece of theatre, for children aged 3+, from Alison McGowan, creative director of the Puppet Ship Company (McGowan has worked extensively in theatre, TV and film including ‘Muppets Most Wanted’). A warm and touching story of beginnings and endings, hellos and goodbyes, this is a wonderful introduction to theatre, both intimate and imaginative.

In a Nutshell, Saturday 21 December and Monday 23 December, 11am and 2pm and Tuesday 24 December, 11am, St. Mary’s Heritage Centre, Gateshead, £10/£7 from 0191 433 4699 or buy online: gateshead.gov.uk/whatson
